Longdendale

Medium Walk (5 - 8 miles)
longendale

Tuesday, 19 March 2019 10:00 AM

  Hadfield train station SK13 1AH at 10.10

Geoff has got a beautiful walk planned for us in the Longdendale Valley from Hadfield to the disused station at the Woodhead Tunnels. There are 5 stunning reservoirs in the valley. We will walk to the north of some of them on the way out and then join the Longdendale trail to the Tunnel. We will return by the trail.

Although the route is about 6.5 miles each way, it is generally good underfoot and easy with little gradient. The return route is gently downhill following the route of the railway track which connected Manchester and Sheffield (closed in 1981) and is suitable for cyclists. In summary, then, the walk is easy, despite its length.

OPTION:- If some of you feel that 13 miles is ‘above your pay grade’ I am happy lead a shorter / slower option which will be about 9 miles. We will see all the same stunning countryside & reservoirs except that we will turn back before getting to the Tunnels.
